A Quick Guide To Container Gardening

If you are a garden lover, but have no space for your gardening, dont worry, gardening is not necessarily out of your reach. In the available space of your house, say balcony, patio, deck, or sunny window, you can create a container garden, which will not only bring you joy, but also vegetables. So, why not start container gardening yourself?

In the past, gardening has been exclusively associated with large pieces of land. Nowadays, even the flat dweller can grow a dream garden, without having any fuss. Ones dream can be fulfilled, by container gardening, which means the gardening is done in a special container, in restricted areas. Container gardening provides all the delights of gardening, without weekly mowing and maintenance. Gardening in a container, allows you to grow perennials, annuals, vegetables and even shrubs and small trees.

Container gardening can be achieved very easily. For those who do not have access to a plot of land, this method allows the land to be transferred to a convenient site. Just as with normal gardening, container gardening also requires proper planning. Planning consists of finding your suitable place, the right sized container, the soil and the most suitable types of plants.

It is always advisable to buy the plants from nearest nursery, unless you have perfect conditions, to go for indoor seedlings. With this type of gardening, you should be careful to not keep the tender plants outside, below 45 F temperature, or in soaring winds. Moreover, you should not leave the new plants in any position, where they will be vulnerable to frost and insects.

There is a false notion, that the plants normally grown in the ground, wont grow in the container. But this is not accurate. If you have any doubts, ask for advice. Almost any type of container, provided it has holes for drainage, can be used for your container gardening. These could include things such as a bucket, an old fish tank, a wheelbarrow, pots, wooden boxes, tyres, or virtually anything that can hold soil.

Container gardening requires a little expense, in the initial stages, but it will require very low maintenance and provide all the joys and beauty of regular gardening. Container gardening requires very little fertilizer, pesticides, weedicides and not much water, depending of course, on the specific needs of the plants.

There are numerous varieties of flowers, shrubs and vegetable that are well suited for growing in pots. This particular type, has been adapted to require only sunlight and water. Providing these two elements are available, you can have freshly grown vegetables, flowers, herbs, or salads, right there in your flat. You will get far more satisfaction, being able to eat your own grown vegetables, than by buying them at the store.

If you don't have a balcony, patio, or deck, get permission from your landlord, to install window boxes. This is still a convenient way of container gardening. It is still possible to grow many pretty flowers, or indoor vegetables, in your sunny window box. called community gardens,

There is no need to have to stop gardening, in your container, when winter approaches. You can continue your container gardening, in the cold months, by selecting plants that are hardier and can withstand the changed conditions. Common plant varieties that are able to stand up to the winter and frosts, are Eulalia grasses, Mexican feather grass, Cornflowers, Lavender cottons, Jasmine, Million bells, Stonecrops, etc.,

In order to extend the life of your garden, from early spring, through to autumn, you can replant to match the changing conditions. This type of garden, allows anybody living in small, restricted areas, to indulge themselves in the wonderful hobby of gardening, all year round, with the added advantage of less maintenance.
